Miss Ghana Foundation, the charity unit of Miss Ghana organization showcased an act of nobility when they donated $5000.00 to the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS). This donation was for a young 13-year-old girl suffering from Scoliosisan and extreme orthopaedic ailment.
Scoliosis is a medical condition where a person’s spine has a sideways curve. The curve is usually “S”- or “C”-shaped.
This is the first instalment of the donation to begin the treatment of the 13-year-old, Gifty Amuzu which includes a total cost of $15,000.
Grifty is a school dropout who was detected with this medical problem 5 years back. Since then, her mother had been working on providing for her daughter’s various treatments. But all the ways failed and now the only solution was an immediate surgery that could save her life or else she had grave chances of being paralyzed for life.
Her condition came to the attention of Miss Ghana 2017 winner Margaret Dery, and the runners-up Pricilla Gameli and Marigold Frimpong when they visited the FOCOS Hospital as part of the Miss Ghana Foundation’s charity plans for the year.
At the time of donation, Chairwoman of the Miss Ghana Foundation Ms. Inna Patty was personally present to check that things go as per the plans. She shared her thoughts, “Miss Ghana Foundation is passionate about health, especially that of less privileged children.” She also commended the efforts of the queens and a Good Samaritan for the donation thus far.
The nursing director of FOCOS hospital Miss Jemima Owusu accepted the donation on behalf of the forbearing girl and also expressed her appreciation, “We are happy to see the Miss Ghana Foundation helping to put a smile on the face of Gifty; thereby helping her fulfil her dreams of going back to school and becoming a soldier one day.
Even though her case is a serious one she has been on the waiting list for weeks now, hoping for some assistance somehow.
I appeal to everyone, corporate bodies and individuals to join in this good deed so that the full cost of the surgery would be covered.”
It is highly commendable to see the beauty pageant organizations and their queens like Miss Ghana to give back to the society in such a wonderful manner. Not only have they given life to a young soul but also given her immense hope for a bright future.
