The Miss Grand International 2016 took a controversial turn when the reports about Miss Iceland being body shamed emerged all over the internet. According to rumours, Miss Iceland 2015 Arna Ýr Jónsdóttir was told by the MGI owner that she is too fat and needs to lose weight before the grand final on Tuesday.
After all the hullaballoo, yesterday it seemed that Miss Iceland took everything in a positive way and also clarified the whole issue in a video posted on her instagram account. However, it seems like the video was not the clarification but the action followed after the video is.

As reported in the Iceland Monitor, the owner of the Miss Grand International sent Jónsdóttir a message advising her to “stop eating breakfast, eat just salad for lunch and drink water every evening until the contest.” In return to which Arna decided to quit the pageant. “If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the top 10,” Jónsdóttir told the Iceland Monitor.
Initially it seemed like there was a confusion, however Arna now claims that there was no confusion and that she was “told to say that”, and she “deeply regrets it.” “I don’t intend to let anybody tell me I’m too fat to look good on stage. I quit,” she wrote on her Facebook post.
Arna also left her last message for the Miss Grand International Organisation on her Facebook whic stated (as translated)...

“I’m going to stand up for myself, all the women and the Icelandic nation. I’m not going to let me say that I have too much fat externally me to be cool on stage.
I stopped. I’m not a range of beauty contest Miss Grand International. Lovely people contacted me who is going to bring me home in the morning, I left the hotel and the price the rest of the night.
I left a letter to the owner and explained how ridiculous this is a message.
“If you are going to do an international beauty pageant you at least have to be Able to see the international beauty” I said to the owner of the competition.
This was not a misunderstanding but I was told to say that I’m terribly sorry.
Thanks so much for your support! I go home as a winner and proud Icelander most in the world.
P.S. Pins placed on the shelf!”
