The 8th edition of Miss Grand International, i.e. Miss Grand International 2020 was held tonight at the DC Hall in Bangkok, Thailand where Abena Appiah of USA made history as she won the first crown for her country. She succeeds and was crowned by Miss Grand International 2019 Valentina Figuera of Venezuela.
Abena Appiah gave a stellar performance throughout the competition. She is 27 years of age and stands 172 cm tall. Abena is not new to the pageantry world as she has previously represented Ghana at Miss Earth 2019 where she was placed at the Top 20 and was also the part of Miss Universe 2014. The diva won Miss Talent Ghana in 2012 and Top Model Ghana 2013 after which she represented Ghana in the Top Model of The World pageant held in Egypt.
The newly crowned Miss Grand International 2020 Abena Appiah’s court included –
1st Runner-up – Samantha Mae Bernardo Miss Grand Philippines 2020
2nd Runner-up – Ivana Batchelor Miss Grand Guatemala 2020
3rd Runner-up – Aurra Kharishma Miss Grand Indonesia 2020
4th Runner-up – Lala Guedes Miss Grand Brazil 2020
Miss Grand International 2020 began as the contestants introduced themselves on the stage. Out of the stunning sixty three contestants who began their journey at the competition, only twenty moved forward as the finale began. The Top 20 included Mariana Jesica Varela Miss Grand Argentina 2020, Lala Guedes Miss Grand Brazil 2020, Chily Tevy Miss Grand Cambodia 2020, Denisa Spergerová Miss Grand Czech Republic 2020, Lady Leon Miss Grand Dominican Republic 2020, Luciana Marti´nez Cienfuegos Miss Grand El Salvador 2020, Stephanie Wyatt Miss Grand England 2020, Ivana Batchelor Miss Grand Guatemala 2020, Aurra Kharishma Miss Grand Indonesia 2020, Ruri Saji Miss Grand Japan 2020, Irene Ng’endo Miss Grand Kenya 2020, Ángela León Yuriar Miss Grand Mexico 2020, Han Lay Miss Grand Myanmar 2020, Angie Keith Miss Grand Panama 2020, Maricielo Gamarra Miss Grand Peru 2020, Samantha Mae Bernardo Miss Grand Philippines 2020, Fabiola Valenti´n Miss Grand Puerto Rico 2020, Patcharaporn Chantarapadit Miss Grand Thailand 2020, Abena Appiah Miss Grand United States of America 2020 and Nguyen Lê Ngoc Thao Miss Grand Vietnam 2020.
As the finale progressed and the contestants strutted in their evening gowns and swimsuits, Top 10 were announced which included Jasebel Robert Miss Grand Malaysia 2020, Mariana Jesica Varela Miss Grand Argentina 2020, Lala Guedes Miss Grand Brazil 2020, Denisa Spergerová Miss Grand Czech Republic 2020, Ivana Batchelor Miss Grand Guatemala 2020, Aurra Kharishma Miss Grand Indonesia 2020, Samantha Mae Bernardo Miss Grand Philippines 2020, Fabiola Valenti´n Miss Grand Puerto Rico 2020, Patcharaporn Chantarapadit Miss Grand Thailand 2020, Abena Appiah Miss Grand United States of America 2020. From these Top 10, only five progressed to the final stage which comprised of the winner and her court.
A number of special awards were also handed out at the finale; Best in National Costume went to Ivana Batchelor Miss Grand Guatemala 2020, Patcharaporn Chantarapadit Miss Grand Thailand 2020, Ruri Saji Miss Grand Japan 2020 while Best in Swimsuit went to Lala Guedes Miss Grand Brazil 2020. Jasebel Robert Miss Grand Malaysia 2020 won Miss Popular Vote and got a direct entry into Top 10.
