Miss Grand International organization, through their official social media, introduced the official representative of Sri Lanka at Miss Grand International 2023. The 21-year-old Sayuri Jayarathne is Miss Grand Sri Lanka 2023 who succeeds Miss Grand Sri Lanka 2022 Nihari Perera.

Sayuri Jayarathne is currently studying for a diploma in special needs education and working at Brian Kerkoven Model Management, the director of Miss Grand Sri Lanka since 2013. An adventurer, Sayuri was a national athlete in the high jump since she was a little girl.

Miss Grand international organization also spoke about how Sri Lanka has suffered from War and Violence. “Sri Lanka suffered from 33 years of Civil War lasting from 1983 to 2009 and the primary conflict in the Sri Lankan Civil War was between the separatist Tamil forces and the government. On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo, were targeted in a series of coordinated ISIS-related terrorist suicide bombings”, they wrote.

As a child growing up in a civil war, Sayuri saw her people suffer, which inspired her to do everything she could to stop violence in any form. Being a part of Miss Grand International will open doors for her to serve her country in so many ways as she wants to use the title to spread the word of peace.
