The 60th edition of Miss International was held today i.e. 13th December 2022 at the Tokyo Dome City Hall in Tokyo, Japan where Jasmin Selberg of Germany was crowned Miss International 2022. Jasmin became the fourth representative to win Miss International 2022 crown as she bested sixty-five other contestants to win the title.
Miss International 2022 was held after an absence of two years; the last edition was held in 2019 where Sireethorn Leearamwat of Thailand was crowned Miss International 2019. In 2020 and 2021, no pageant was held due to covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the 2022 edition had to be a fairly large production to make up for the last two years.
The finale night began with the introduction of the contestants in their National Costumes. The 60th edition saw the debut of Cape Verde and Uzbekistan and the returns of Cuba, Greece, Jamaica, Kenya, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Korea and Uruguay. Uruguay last competed in 1999, Greece and Jamaica last competed in 2010, Namibia last competed in 2012, Sierra Leone last competed in 2017, and Cuba, Kenya and South Korea last competed in 2018.
The finale was held in the format of Top 15- Top 8 – Top 5. The contestants first walked the stage in their swimsuits when the first Top 15 were announced. While everyone was almost happy with the first cut, it was very surprising to see Mexico, India, Indonesia and Vietnam not make it to cut. These were the contestants who were the front-runners are the competition this year.
Also, this year, Philippines was the only Asian contestant to make it to Top 15. At the next Top 8 cut, Philippines did not make it to the cut but Hannah Arnold definitely made her country proud. Cape Verde, the debuting country, held the highest placement of first runner-up at the Miss International 2022 contest making history. While Peru’s Tatiana Calmell placed as the second runner-up, she was a mega-favourite for the crown since the beginning of the competition.
In conclusion, Miss International 2022 was a successful edition with strong performances from all the delegates. Miss International 2019 Sireethorn Leearamwat of Thailand gave an impactful and emotional farewell speech as she walked the stage for the last time and completed a three year long successful reign.
