Newly crowned Miss International Philippines 2017 Mariel De Leon has always been in the news for her victory, her stunning beauty and her possible ability to bring a back to back victory at Miss International pageant this year. But, here is something new that the beauty queen has landed herself into, and is trending all over the internet, but this time it’s criticism that she has been facing.
Okay, so it started when Mariel De Leon took to twitter and criticized the newly appointed presidential communications official Mocha Uson. Her tweets landed her in hot water among millions of Uson's followers. It all started when De Leon was asked by netizens what she thought of Uson, De Leon replied, "Biased and disrespectful. She insults those who are against her." "There are so many other unbiased, educated, and respected (and respectful) people who deserve her place," she added.
Her comments attracted criticism and trolls from Uson’s fans who called the young beauty queen unfit to wear the crown. The criticism went so far that they went on to accuse her of having plastic surgery and urged others not to support her in the upcoming international pageant.
Uson took to Facebook on Thursday to respond to De Leon, and wrote, “Sorry, Ms. Philippines. I'll take note of your tweets and do well for the country and for you.]”
Mariel then responded to Mocha through a tweet, saying: "It proves that we can accept each other's opinions and differences and still let peace, democracy, and love for country prevail. It is done.” Her tweet has since been deleted.
Mariel also issued a statement with an apology on Twitter on Thursday, wishing Uson "success in her job." Though her controversial tweets have been deleted, de Leon is firm about her beliefs. We believe that Mariel De Leon has spoken up like a true beauty. She is opinionated and strong enough to pull herself out of a situation like a true queen, maintaining her verdict and of course grace.
