On July 7 at Seoul’s Universal Arts Center, the finale of ‘2017 Miss Korea’ beauty pageant concluded with the crowning of 21 year old Seo Jae as the winner. Hailing from Gyeongi Province, Seo might represent Korea at Miss Earth 2017 or Miss International 2017.
Previously, Miss Korea winners were sent to Miss Universe, while runners-up used to compete in Miss World, Miss International and Miss Earth. However, the Miss Korea organisation lost the franchises to Miss Universe and Miss World.
Seo is 175.2 cm tall and has done her graduation from Korea National University of the Arts with a degree in Korean ballet and hopes to become a professional ballerina.
The pageant was hosted by Tony An and former ‘Miss Korea’ and actress Oh Hyun Kyung. This year marked the 61st year of the ‘2017 Miss Korea’ pageant, with 51 contestants competing in round one, that narrowed down to 33 for the final round.
Jung Da-hye, 21, from Seoul, was the first runner-up and Lee Han-na, 20, was the second runner-up. The event was sponsored by the HankookI lbo daily newspaper, sister paper of The Korea Times.
