Julia Van Steenberghe of Old Town was crowned Miss Maine USA 2020 on 10thNovember 2019 in South Portland. She will be representing the State of Maine at Miss USA 2020 competition during the spring of 2020. She succeeds Lexi Elston Miss Maine USA 2019 of Windham.
Julia is 21 years old and is a Presidential Scholar at the University of Maine. The model is double major in elementary education and child development and family relationships. She was a part of the UMaine Cheerleading team her first and second year. She was prompted by her coach to compete for the pageants.
Julia aspire to end childhood hunger and poverty. She is passionate and keen to work towards helping children in all capacities. She dedicated her senior capstone research project to surveying Maine’s guidance counselors to learn how the school is planning to tackle such issues.
The 21-year-old model is very dedicated towards ending the plight of hunger and poverty across the state. She has been very vocal about these issues and has urged everyone to come as a team and work towards tackling this issue. Her passion towards children and literacy has seen many organized literacy nights for local schools to help families and children improve their reading skills.
Along with being very vocal about ending hunger and poverty across state, Julia is fitness instructor at University’s office of Admissions. She teaches cycling, Pilates and HIIT cardio. She loves to travel and spend time working towards educating the future generation.
According to Julia the stereotypes attached to pageants turned out to be positive for her. She explains the pageants as a healthy competition and stated that the competitor’s support for each other is commendable.
Julia will be representing State of Maine at Miss USA 2020 along with Grace Morey who was crowned Miss Maine Teen USA 2020 and will be representing the State of Maine for Miss USA Teen 2020.
