Miss Namibia not to be a part of international pageants in 2021

21 Jan 2021 | Camilla Suarez

The organization of Miss Namibia announced to cancel the Miss Namibia 2020 edition due to the pandemic outbreak in the country. The managing director; Conny Maritz mentioned, “We had to postpone the Miss Namibia pageant last year, and so did two of the largest and most recognised international pageants, the Miss World and Miss Universe Organisations.” Conny further added, “These postponements are not just the result of travel restrictions, but they happened mainly out of concern for the health and safety of the delegates and participants.”

Cancelling of the pageant automatically gave Miss Namibia 2019 Nadja Breytenbach who represented the country at Miss Universe 2019 to carry on with her crown duties and activities. The diva had to continue to engage in public commitments and represent the pageants' sponsors. Meanwhile the organization monitored the situation of the pandemic and opened their entries for Miss Namibia 2021.

“We have been looking for the first possible opportunity. The situation in our view has not improved sufficiently to allow for that. We are not particularly pressed for time as both the Miss Universe and Miss World 2021 pageants have provisionally been rescheduled for December 2021,” Conny stated.

The organization has been very careful with their entries for Miss Namibia 2021 competition and mentioned that they are still looking for a way to host the pageant but, have been suggested to host it virtually in April like other international pageants. The organization has not yet come up to a clear decision but have been contemplating around the virtual crowning now.

Miss Teen Namibia 2019n Schwane Blignaut who also held onto her crown after Miss Namibia Teen 2020 was cancelled will be representing the country at Miss Teen International this year. According to the sources Miss Namibia 2019 Nadja Breytenbach will not represent the country at Miss Universe competition.

Recalling her experience at Miss Universe 2019, Nadja Breytenbach says “I think many people do not know how much time, effort, and money it cost to compete in international pageants. I had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity competing in Miss Universe in 2019, and it was an amazing experience for me. There I was surrounded by the most beautiful and intelligent women from all over the world. I learned so much from each of them. It was such an uplifting, inspiring and motivational environment. I, however, think the best of all for me was the fact that I made friends for a lifetime.”

The organization is yet to reveal more on how they will host the competition but as of now Miss Namibia 2019 crown rests upon Nadja Breytenbach’s head but she won’t be taking part in any international competition this year.
