Miss Philippines Earth 2017 finale concluded on 15th July 2017, and Karen Ibasco was crowned as the winner. Karen will now represent Philippines at Miss Earth 2017 pageant to be held later this year. The pageant this year was not just well organized, but also the contestants were fully prepared to put forth their best.

While all the 40 girls worked up really well to make it to the crown, Karen’s on point answers and confidence won her the coveted crown. So, let’s take a look at the answers that made Karen win the prestigious title. The first Q&A session was for the Top 15 finalists, which was basically the hashtag round, wherein the candidates had to pick one topic from a fishbowl. Karen got #fake news, and her answer to this was, "Nowadays, a lot of people distribute fake news but one of the most important mediums is social media. We have to learn [how] to use it for social good. We have to learn to disseminate…and also to filter the right information not just for yourself...but also for the people in your circle of influence."

Her views on fake news surely got her to the Top 5, and the way the beauty nailed her answer during the common Q&A round for the Top 5 finalists was praise worthy. She was asked what she wanted to change about the environmental policies of the country.

She replied: "Everyone [is] experiencing climate change. I’m just grateful that the Philippines has signed the Paris Treaty. What I want to see is to pass a carbon tax. In that way, we would invest in renewable energy to help our world to be a better place, greener, inhabitable for the whole country."

At the same event, Nellza Mortola Bautista was crowned as Miss Philippines Fire 2017, Kim De Guzman was crowned as Miss Philippines Air 2017, Vanessa Mae Castillo was crowned as Miss Philippines Eco Tourism 2017 and Jessica Marasigan was crowned as Miss Philippines Water 2017.
