25 Jun 2020 | Priya Bhardwaj

Miss South Africa 2020 is all set to host the annual edition virtually where the representatives to Miss Universe 2020, Miss World 2020 and Miss Supranational 2020 will be crowned. The organization also recently announced that the pageant is going under dramatic and exciting changes for the new decade in which the rebranding includes the launch of a new logo with the tagline: Face Your Power. Embrace Your Future.

Just recently, the Top 15 semi-finalists were revealed out of the 35 contestants who began their journey in the national competition. The crowd favourite Karishma Ramdev has made it to the Top 15, to no one's surprise. The 25-year-old beauty hails from Chatsworth in KwaZulu-Natal but lives in Johannesburg.

Karishma is a qualified medical doctor working at the Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital and says she is blessed to have had her family as her support structure during this time as working on the frontline has been stressful 'as we are one of the main COVID hospitals dealing with the Coronavirus'.

On making it to Top 15, Karishma said, “Grateful is an understatement. I feel honoured to have been selected as one of the Top 15. Each girl has such amazing qualities and I am so happy to stand beside all of them representing strong women in South Africa; women who are ready to make a difference. The journey has been nerve-wrecking but so wonderful. South Africa has been incredible and encouraging to me and I do not take it for granted. I cannot wait for the ride of a lifetime!"

The beauty queen is not new to the pageantry as she earlier competed in Miss South Africa 2018, where she performed exceedingly well at the gala night. She looked stunning in her white swimsuit as she walked in swaying motion flaunting her body. In the Long evening gown preliminary round also, she stood confident and charming amongst other contestants competing for the pageant. She successfully locked her place in the Top 5, but unfortunately could not go any further.

If she wins Miss SA, she says she would like to meet Queen Elizabeth II so that she could ask her advice on how to keep her crown shiny! Karishma is a crowd favourite for the national competition and she sure will be a strong representative of South Africa at an international platform such as Miss Universe.
