Iris Mittenaere is currently in Haiti with the Smile Train Organisation. The beauty queen is busy fulfilling her duties as the reigning Miss Universe and with the constant updates on the social media page of Miss Universe Organisation, it looks like Iris is going really good with her work.
Iris recently witnessed a cleft surgery and the beauty described it as a life-changing experience. Iris was at the Smile Train's local partner hospital, Hopital Universitaire Justinien in Cap Haitien. Iris said that as she is studying to be a Dental Surgeon, it was an honour to be in the operating room with Smile Train’s local medical partners who are on the ground helping cleft patients 365 days a year. Iris keenly observed the surgery, and the beauty was glad that she could be a part of it.
She even met the cleft patients who have been treated under the Smile Train organisation. The French beauty was amazed to meet the patients and see them live their lives. Iris is really energized for the project as for the first time she is witnessing the impact of these surgeries.
Smile Train is known to be the charity providing corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates. Smile Train was established in 1998 by Brian Mullaney and Charles Wang, who had previously worked with Operation Smile, another charity focused on correcting cleft lips and palates.
Besides dental health, the stunning Miss Universe supports girl education as well. Iris shares, “I will be a dentist in two years. I have a charity for teaching children how to eat properly. But now that I’m representing the Miss Universe, I want to do more than that. I really want to bring all the children to school”.
