While Catriona Gray’s win in Miss Universe was a very expected and deserving one. The Filipina beauty had worked really hard and struggled for years before she swopped the stage on 17th December 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand and took the crown home.
Catriona started out with Miss World Philippines 2016 and then she went on to represent the Philippines in Miss World 2016 as the crowned winner. She was adjudged as one of the Top 5 finalists during the finale. Catriona’s dreams, however, came true when she wins Binibining Pilipinas 2018 and represented her nation in Miss Universe 2018.
Apart from her win, Catriona’s crimson gown was also the highlight of the evening. She chose to wear a crimson coloured gown with splashes of orange and yellow. While many thought it was just a cool choice of colours, they missed the main inspiration behind the colour code.
Catriona’s fed her ideas to designer Makeup Tumang who brought it to life. She wanted a gown which would signify the Mayon volcano located in Albay which is actually Catriona’s hometown. The volcano erupted in January, which leads to the evacuation of numerous villages around the area.
The Mayon volcano is a very popular tourist spot despite its hostility because the mountain is in a symmetrical conical shape. The area has now been turned into a national park for the tourists who come in abundance. Catriona’s thoughtfulness really brings out her dedication to her country and her hometown.
The Filipina beauty also casually added that her mother had dreamed that she would win the Miss Universe crown wearing a red dress. Her decision played a two-pronged agenda during the finale as she was able to fulfil her mother’s dreams as well as cater to the cultural and environmental highlights of the Philippines.
Catriona is a true winner and her thoughtfulness can easily ensure her fans and followers that she will do wonders as the new queen.
