Andrea Meza of Mexico was crowned Miss Universe 2020 on 16th May 2021 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, United States. Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa crowned Andrea at the end of the event finale and became the third Mexican woman to be crowned Miss Universe.

In one of her recent interviews, Andrea shared that before she decided to enter the competition, her family was struggling with business and she didn’t have any work. Andrea explained that being unemployed starts playing with one’s head after a while, but her decision to participate in a beauty pageant helped her to stay focused and she had a lot of free time, so she channelized every thought and energy she had into preparing herself for the competition. Andrea Meza earned the right to represent Mexico at Miss Universe 2020 after winning Mexicana Universal Chihuahua 2020.

Andrea shared that Miss Universe 2010 Ximena Navarrete inspired her to be a beauty queen, but she was always afraid of facing the camera as she was not confident in herself. But somehow, she wanted to overcome that.

The diva has shared that she, for the longest time, did not believe that she could win the crown or do the things she is doing right now because she was afraid of what people would think about her. Andrea added that she was scared to show herself and never knew that she could be a role model to anyone, but as soon as she faced her fears, the diva realized that everything she was thinking about was all in her head and that had encouraged her to keep working hard in life.

Miss Universe 2020 added, "Sometimes we’re afraid to try because of failure or we just feel vulnerable. But I want to tell them that being vulnerable is OK. That makes us human. And that’s OK if we’re afraid. We can only try. Once you step out of your comfort zone, you’ll realize that you’re capable of doing amazing things. "

The Mexican beauty is now using the Miss Universe 2020 platform to show her true self and to encourage young people to stay focused and zealous in the pursuit of their dreams. She said, "I’m just a normal girl from a normal city with a normal, loving family. And I’ve come this far because of my values. I know on social media we can see amazing places and appear a certain way. But I think it’s more important to show just the way I am. I have this amazing life, but it’s not perfect. I’m not perfect. Nothing in this world is perfect. "

When asked about what she wants to accomplish as Miss Universe 2020, Andrea mentioned that she wants to take advantage of every single moment she has with her and do everything possible. She added, "I worked with the consulate general in New York and we had this amazing conversation about women's empowerment and gender-based violence. That’s one of my main focuses. " Andrea Meza is a keen advocate of women's empowerment and wants to use the platform given to her to let the world know about the condition of the Latin community. She is committed to raising global awareness of gender-based violence.

Andrea Meza’s first official act as Miss Universe 2020 was to get vaccinated as she wanted to use her influence as a beauty queen to motivate others to get vaccinated to not only take care of themselves but to take care of others. The beauty queen wanted to demonstrate that vaccinations are nothing to be afraid of and that everyone should get them.
