WHAT IS THE FORMAT

Before the finale, the contestants were scored on their performance in the preliminary evening gown, preliminary swimsuit, and the judges interview.

Breaking from the previous years’ format, the Top 21 semi-finalists will be selected based on total highest average score, instead of the former ‘continental’ format where semi finalists were selected based on geographic region.

The Top 21 will then compete in the swimsuit round from which the Top 10 finalists will be picked. Top 10 finalists will then compete in the evening gown portion of the competition, after which the top five finalists will be selected for the final Q & A round to determine who becomes Miss Universe 2020.
