According to the rumours surfacing the beauty pageant world, the 69th edition for Miss Universe i.e., Miss Universe 2020 is going to be held in Costa Rica. The country is negotiating to host the Miss Universe pageant for the first time. Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

"Talks have begun for the possibility of Costa Rica hosting the Miss Universe pageant, at the moment it is a possibility," said Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism confirmed the news on 29th January 2020 during an interview on the program Charlemos by the journalist Carlos Fernández. He further added, “The natural and cultural places of our country are highlighted. A beauty pageant that has evolved and promotes positive values.”

Costa Rica Tourism Institute has mentioned that they appreciate the values Miss Universe pageant carries and how it has evolved into a pageant that celebrates women empowerment and leadership.  They believe that Miss Universe Organization’s values align with the values of Costa Rica Tourism Institute and thus are keen to host the competition. There was a video conference that took place recently to have a discussion and minister of coordination with the private sector, Andrés Garnier, also participated in this meeting; as well as Lumai Aragón; independent advisor for international relations and trade and who was the liaison between Miss Universe and Costa Rica.

The Costa Rica Tourism Institute mentioned, “It was a first approach that took place with the organization of Miss Universe, with the Costa Rican Institute of ICT tourism as rector of the tourism sector and without a doubt we participate very closely because we manage the image of Costa Rica in the world together with the brand country and eat. There is no doubt that for Costa Rica it would be a nice opportunity to host a contest that has been famous for so many years and that has a huge audience reach.”

The pageant fanatics are excited to see what is going to be the next step from both organizations to make the beauty pageant happen in a new country this year. According to sources, the next step that looks essential is to have an agreement on how to host the pageant as the Costa Rica Tourism Institute does not have enough funds to pay entirely for the entire event so both the organization will have to agree. But the good news is that this was not the support that was requested during the video conference and it seems that they have the possibility of obtaining the resources at a private level and what is needed is international support.
