Tangia Zaman Methila was crowned Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020 on 3rd April 2021 at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital city Dhaka. With her win, Tangia was supposed to represent Bangladesh at Miss Universe 2020 but unfortunately, as confirmed by the official organization, the country will not be sending any representative to Miss Universe for this edition.

The organization took to their official social media as they wrote, “Due to lockdown and travel restrictions, we could not finalize the preparations. So we will not be able to participate at Miss Universe 2020. We already informed Miss Universe USA management accordingly earlier this week.”

Ever since Methila's crowning, social media has been giving mixed responses. While, few congratulated her, others called her out for knowing the judges a little too well and for posting a private video of a man that was commonly dubbed as sexual harassment.

A few hours ago, it also came into notice that the Miss Universe app had removed Bangladesh from the list of delegates, thus beginning the rumours regarding Bangladesh not competing this year. Besides the harassment accusations, the model was accused of being an over age for Miss Universe and lying about the same. There are alleged proofs of her claiming to be 27-years-old in Miss Supranational 2019, where she withdrew from the contest on account of family emergencies, but when she competed for Miss Universe Bangladesh 2020, her age was still the same and she was still registered to be 27-years-old.

The 69th edition of Miss Universe i.e., Miss Universe 2020 is all set to be held on 16th May 2021 in Hollywood, Florida. Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa who has been performing her crown duties with utmost sincerity and honest even in tough times like pandemic will be crowning her successor at the end of the event finale.
