Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu’s heartwarming homecoming

16 Dec 2021 | Angelique Reyes

The Miss Universe organization hosted the 70th edition of the international pageant on 12th December 2021 in Eilat, Israel where Harnaaz Sandhu of India was crowned as Miss Universe 2021.  She succeeded Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza of Mexico for the title.

Creating history by winning the most prestigious beauty title of the world, Harnaaz broke the spell of 21 years for her country as Lara Dutta last won the crown of Miss Universe in year 2000. She became the third women to have achieved the massive feat after Sushmita Sen won Miss Universe 1994 and Lara replicated the feat over two decades ago.

The queen is now back in her homeland, as she arrived in Mumbai last night where she was received by an enthused crowd flocking and shouting their country’s name at the top of their lungs. Harnaaz was clad in a shimmering red gown designed by Bhawna Rao as she embraced her fans’ energy with an infectious smile.

“Our Sherni Harnaaz Sandhu has just landed in Mumbai! However due to covid restrictions we refrained from putting out any formal communication in order to avoid large crowds. However the Miss Diva team was there to welcome her and we shall have a grand celebration once the Queen completes her 7 days quarantine period. Keep showering your love on Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu,” the officials of Miss Diva organization stated upon her arrival.

“I said in my final answer, that I believed in myself and that’s why I was on that stage. I also want to mention a few people who believed in me too. Firstly, I would like to thank my family and friends who have been there with me no matter what. They have seen me fall and get up and they have been there supporting me throughout,” Sandhu expressed her gratitude in an instagram post.

The diva elegantly received the support and requested everyone to scream in unison ‘Chak De Phatte’ which roughly translates to ‘Let’s Do This!’ in Punjabi, queen’s mother tongue. After addressing the crowd and posing for a few pictures, Miss Universe gracefully exited in her car onto the next chapter of her life.
