Hanna Nepliakh’s national costume ‘Embroidered Code of Ukraine’ for Miss Universe 2021

The 70th edition of Miss Universe pageant, Miss Universe 2021, is set to be held on 12th December 2021 in Eilat, Israel where Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

The delegates are in the last leg of pre pageant activities and are already done with the head to head challenge. Contestants are currently underway with the judge’s interview round and next up is the much watched out for, national costume round, set to be held tomorrow at 7 PM (local time).

 

 

In a recent development, Miss Ukraine Universe 2021 Hanna Nepliakh has revealed her national costume for the preliminary competition tomorrow. The costume is called ‘Embroidered Code of Ukraine’ and is inspired by the beautiful art of embroidery prevalent in her country. The skirt is decorated with 25 embroidery hoops, equipment used in the process of embroidery, representing each region of Ukraine, including Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk region.

The designers wanted to showcase the diversity, richness and uniqueness of embroidery of different regions of the country in one image. “Every nation has its own unique code, which is present in simple things - traditions, songs, fairy tales, clothes. Traditional Ukrainian embroidery occupies a special place in Ukraine. Depending on the historical region of Ukraine, embroidery ornaments differ in details, colors and their own unique embroidery technique. Masters in the process of embroidery lay in their product not only beauty but also a subtle spiritual symbolic meaning, signs of some kind. In ancient times, clothes and towels were often decorated with embroidery. They were carefully preserved and passed on to descendants. Embroidery really distinguishes our people, it is our personal and sacred. For Ukrainians, embroidery is a process of spiritual growth and upliftment,” said Natalia Shevchuk, the designer of the costume, while explaining the importance of craft of embroidery.
