Jennifer Hawkins kicked out of Myer as ambassador

13 Feb 2018 | Irina Silva

Jennifer Hawkins is an Australian model, brand ambassador, entrepreneur, television presenter and beauty queen best known for being crowned Miss Universe Australia and later the same year Miss Universe 2004.

After almost 11 years of walking down the runway for Myer, it might be finally curtains call on Jennifer Hawkins’ stint with the brand. Myer has been in deep waters for quite some-time as it axed some of its ambassadors in 2016. However, the brand decided to retain Hawkins and even signed her on for another two years in August of the same year – meaning she could part ways with the brand this summer.

The axing from the department store comes right after stocks plummeted to the lowest ever price after underwhelming January sales. This indicates the loss being a reoccurring problem with the company, rather than a fluke.

Fuelling speculation that the chain could be in jeopardy, Myer has reportedly decided to ditch their Autumn Winter Collection ’18 launch this year – opting instead to hold smaller events in select stores around the country. It comes as Myer decided to drop its Autumn Winter ’18 showcase after their major rival David Jones staged an underwhelming show on Wednesday, which failed to draw the usual A-list crowd.

Jennifer, who joined the store in 2007, said at the time of her being signed again in 2016: ‘I am so grateful for the opportunity Myer has given me over the last ten years and I am excited about the next two years.’ A representative for Jennifer was unaware of the rumours that she could be dropped when asked by an Australian daily.

Jennifer – who was crowned Miss Universe in 2004 – added: ‘I guess I want to build a life that I don’t need a vacation from.’

Jennifer has certainly been hinting at settling down and starting a family with husband Jake Wall – suggesting she might be ready to take a step back from her modelling career.

She told a magazine last year that she wants to have a farm and a family, in the next ten years.

‘I always joke with Jake that I’d love to have a farm,’ Jennifer told the publication. She added: ‘I’d love to be living near the water and have a family.’

The brand has decided to take its marketing in a different direction this year, a Myer spokeswoman told a daily. ‘We have evolved our Autumn 2018 events strategy to ensure it is customer-led and focused on in-store experiences and theatre that drive traffic,’ she said. The new plan for Myer will reportedly involve targeting specific customers face-to-face at store functions and at events like Sydney’s Mardi Gras.

It is not known what Myer will do for its Spring Summer launch. Daily Mail Australia has reached out to representatives for the chain for comment. Myer has held lavish season launches in previous years, flying in international supermodels to walk in their shows held at impressive locations.

Indeed, longtime brand ambassador Jennifer Hawkins walked the runway for the Autumn Winter ’16 launch at Barangaroo in Sydney.  The show involved a fake rainstorm, models on motorbikes and an exclusive dinner for just 120 guests.

Meanwhile, Myer stocks have plummeted to their lowest ever value after the department store admitted its Boxing Day sales were a disaster. January revenue was 6.5 percent lower than last year following Christmas sales in the first two weeks of December dropping by 5 percent. The recent slumping sales meant revenue was down 3.6 percent for the first half of the financial year, and profits even worse.

Jennifer Hawkins is yet to confirm or deny the news.
