Another pageant, another crowning and yet another controversy. We are talking about the newly crowned Miss Universe Australia 2016 Caris Tiivel. Caris was crowned on 31st August 2016 but within few days of her crowning Caris’ topless photos started doing rounds on internet.
The picture was published in black and white, wherein the 23 years old model is seen posing in just a spotted sarong tied around her waist. In another picture, her long waves were seen protecting her modesty as she dons a smouldering gaze at the camera. With these two pictures, the newly crowned beauty queen had found herself surrounded by scandals.
But, it seems like this controversy will not stretch into something unnecessarily huge, as Miss Universe Australia director TROY BARBAGALLO told Page 13 he was aware of the pictures and said it wasn’t like the pictures were done for a lads’ mag. “The photos are different than a men’s magazine,” he said. “The past is the past. It’s 2016 and partial nudity is not a problem. From what I understand they are beautiful not tasteless.”
“A discussion was had and it was decided there was nothing prior or in future that brings pageant in disrepute,” he continued.
After finishing her High School, Tiivel worked and travelled as a full-time model for a few years. She likes to spend time with her family and friends, and going to the beach in the summer, visiting local cafes and reading books are her favourite pastime. She decided to enter the Miss Universe Australia pageant because she thought it would be a great platform to become a role model to others. What do you think about this mounting hullabaloo?
