At the conclusion of the splendid finale of Miss Universe Australia 2016 held on 31st August 2016 at the Sofitel Hotel in Melbourne Caris Tiivel was crowned as the winner. Caris succeeds Miss Universe Australia 2015 Monika Radulovic, and will now represent Australia at the Miss Universe 2016 pageant.
23 years old Caris Tiivel was a national finalist in the pageant three years ago, however she did not place in the top 10. Caris told the media that she was older and wiser this time around and felt more determined to secure the Australian crown after her WA win.

“I think I am more aware of world issues and current affairs. My speaking has improved since last time but it’s still something I will continue to work on. I have more confidence about being up on the stage too, so I am just going to enjoy the process,” said Tiivel before clinching the coveted crown. The beauty queen is a professional model and has worked as a model in New York, Milan, Berlin and Hawaii.

After finishing her High School, Tiivel worked and travelled as a full-time model for a few years. She likes to spend time with her family and friends, and going to the beach in the summer,visiting local cafes and reading books are her favourite pastime. She decided to enter the Miss Universe Australia pageant because she thought it would be a great platform to become a role model to others.
There were a total of 23 finalists who competed for the coveted title of Miss Universe Australia 2016. Australia has produced two Miss Universe so far: Kerry Anne Wells in 1972 and Jennifer Hawkins in 2004. In February 2016, the new National Director of Miss Universe Australia Organization was appointed by the IMG/WME Talent and Modeling Agency, who is also the head of Miss Universe Organization presently. The current National Director of Miss Universe Australia is Troy Barbagallo.
