Miss Universe Australia 2020 Top 5 Q/A round

28 Oct 2020 | Angelique Reyes

The organization of Miss Universe Australia hosted the virtual coronation of Miss Universe Australia 2020 just a few hours ago at Sofitel Melbourne on Collins, Melbourne where Maria Thattil from Victoria was announced as the new Miss Universe Australia 2020 and will represent Australia at Miss Universe 2020. She has succeeded Miss Universe Australia 2019 Priya Serrao for the title.

Before she was announced as Miss Universe Australia 2020, the top five delegates; Maddison Coluccio from New South Wales, Daria Varlamova from Victoria, Tash Galgut from New South Wales, Maria Thattil from Victoria, and Mine Coetser from Queensland were asked a common question which was their last chance to impress the judges with their intelligent and witty answers. Let’s look at the final question asked to the Top 5 finalists for the title of Miss Universe Australia 2020 and the exceptionally well-defined answers by them:

The question that was asked to all the delegates was, “If you had world’s attention for 30 seconds, what would you say?”

Maddison Coluccio from New South Wales was the first delegate to be announced for top five and was asked to answer the question. The diva answered by stating that she will ask the people about their purpose, life’s mission, passion. How do you want to use your voice when others have been silenced? She confidently explained that our voice has a profound capacity to spark powerful conversation and cultivate collective change. History has taught us that change occurs in small increments and little steps helps in making things better. She added that we don’t want few people practicing activism perfectly but we want 7 billion people practicing activism imperfectly. She was very persuasive with her answer and explained the gist of it beautifully.

Daria Varlamova from Victoria was the second delegate to be announced for the top five and was asked to answer the same question. The diva answered by mentioning that she would ask people that if you want to live then look at children and the way they approach life. She quotes an author and stated, “Children can teach us how to be happy without a reason, how to fight tirelessly for something they desire, and to always stay curious.”

Miss Universe Australia 2020 Top 5 Q/A round

Tash Galgut from New South Wales was the third delegate to be announced for the top five and was asked to answer the same question. Tash was very confident and mentioned that if it’s just 30 seconds, I’ll straight jump to the point and say that the global community is divided currently in our personal, political, scientific, and religious beliefs and these conflicts are causing cracks in the community blinding everyone with the fact that we all want the same thing. We all want to live a comfortable and happy life and we can achieve all of this by working together by looking after ourselves by setting up a positive lifestyle, our community by rebuilding human relationships and environment by better and conscious consumer choices.

Maria Thattil from Victoria was the fourth delegate to be announced for the top five and was asked to answer the same question. She answered by asking everyone to take three seconds to be silent and explained that she asked everyone to do that because she wants to show that powerlessness and injustice is not dressed up as we all assume it to be. Sometimes it looks exactly like that; your silence. The diva who impressed everyone with her incredible answer stated, “We have spent most of the year in masks but how many of us have lives our lives behind another kind of mask?” The mask of silence of going after our dreams, challenging the norms, or speaking up for the ones who are unable to raise their voice. Maria stated that until you have your will and voice, you can turn anything into power and to show as the leader in your life is right now.

Mine Coetser from Queensland was the final delegate to be announced for the top five and was asked to answer the same question. Mine answered, “I’d ask to wake up.” She explained by mentioning that we live in a world which is driven by money, power, and we have led this life where we believe that the world revolves around us. It’s 2020 and there still are children being exploited, people are being discriminated based on colour, and we still fed to believe that everything revolves around us. Mine mentioned that there are people living poverty, dying of hunger and it is not enough to just talk about the change instead we must wake up and make that change happen.

All the five delegates sounded confident, strong, and assured with their answers and focused towards winning the title of Miss Universe Australia 2020.
