Carmen Isabel Múñoz Guzmán crowned Miss Universe Dominican Republic 2017

At the conclusion of the grand finale of Miss Dominican Republic 2017 held at Gran Teatro del Cibao in Santiago de los Caballeros, Carmen Isabel Múñoz Guzmán, representative of the province of Duarte, was crowned as the winner. The 25-year-old lawyer Carmen will now represent her country in the Miss Universe 2017 beauty pageant. She succeeds Sal Garcia, Miss Dominican Republic 2016, who represented the Dominican Republic in the Miss Universe 2016 beauty pageant, held in the Philippines. Thirty-one contestants competed in the finale to win the coveted title.

At the same event, Jeisy Rodríguez from Santiago was declared the first runner-up and crowned Miss Continentes Unidos Dominicana 2017 (Miss United Continents Dominican Republic 2017),  and will now represent the country in the Miss United Continents 2017 to be held in Ecuador.

Lytza Álvarez from Santo Domingo Este, the second runner-up, was crowned Miss Miss Hispanoamérica Dominicana 2017 and will go on to compete in Reina Hispanoamericana 2017.

The third runner-up Zaidy Bello from Barahona was crowned Miss Top Model Dominicana 2017, and will now represent her country in Top Model of the World 2017.

Top 7 finalists also included Kassandra Montandón from Distrito Nacional, Lorenne de Oleo from Elías Piña and Lowanny Rosario from Taveras. They may also be sent to other international pageants, yet to be announced.

Dominicana has so far won a Miss Universe crown only once when Amelia Victoria Vega Polanco was crowned Miss Universe 2003.

It will now be exciting to see if Carmen will win the crown again for her country or not.
