Tina Antwi, a model, writer and youth development worker from London, who made it to the final round of Miss Universe Great Britain 2017, revealed that she felt extremely blessed to be a part of the beauty pageant as it helped her build her confidence and appreciate her dark skin.

After receiving such kind and lovely behavior at the contest, the 23-year-old beauty queen who was made feel bad about the color of her skin as a child, wants to become an inspiration for women of all races to help them learn to embrace who they really are.

In order to support what she believes in, Tina said, “There are still people out there who bleach their skins and who suffer from depression and so many other issues because they still live in the mindset that they are not good enough.

So much more needs to be done to create strong community networks which provide support for individuals and I am glad that I get to take part in addressing these issues.”

Tina Antwi was one of the lucky 40 beauty queens who got the opportunity to take part in Miss Universe Great Britain held on July 15, 2017, at Newport, Wales. The contest was won by Anna Burdzy who will be representing Great Britain at the Miss Universe pageant. Tina was unable to take the crown home; however, she took back a lot of positivity with her.

She was overwhelmed to see a refreshing change in people’s perception towards beauty and ended by saying, “It is amazing that as an adult the standards of beauty are constantly shifting to the extent that even dark skin girls like myself can feel confident to compete in pageants like this and also be considered beautiful”.

Tina is presently working on a book called Black Skin Carved Mask together with campaigning and giving speeches at events in order to inspire and motivate people to respect and be content with their beauty.
