Indonesia’s Frederika Alexis Cull introduces her Evening Gown and National Costume at the Press Presentation

20 Nov 2019 | Priya Bhardwaj

Puteri Indonesia held a Press Conference for Miss Universe Indonesia 2019 Frederika Alexis Cull a day ago where she showed off her official Miss Universe 2019 outfits to the press which included her Evening Gown as well as the National Costume. The 20-year-old Indonesian-Australian beauty has definitely charmed everyone with her impeccable style and confidence.

At the conference, the stunning diva first walked the stage wearing a red gown designed by Priyo Oktaviano who released a special collection for Indonesian Weaving Cita with the theme "Bali of Arc" which uses Balinese weaving from Kelungkung, Bali. Born and raised in the land of Java, Priyo was inspired by Javanese puppets, choosing to raise puppet characters including Srikandi, Drupadi, Kunti, Arimbi, Rengganis etc. Priyo saw the puppet character as a picture of the perfect figure of an Indonesian woman who was elegant and polite in behaviour but also strong and tough in dealing with all the trials of life's problems.

Priyo concocted a drapery technique that implied the elegance of the feminine style of Indonesian women who were gentle and characterless, accented by the application of golden black shell combination that showed the strong and tough side of Indonesian women in facing all obstacles or trials in life.

The second outfit that she wore was from the HIAN TJEN couture, a man known for his extraordinary creative talent and is easily one of the most respected fashion designers in the country. This beautiful dress is taken from Hian Tjen’s newest couture collection entitled “PERFECT10N” that pays homage to traditional Christian church fellowships, The Amish.

The third dress was her stunning Evening Gown which is a composition of Tex Saverio. The dress is inspired by the uniqueness of Frederika’s character. She is a very strong woman who knows what she wants and works hard for it, yet she is a loving and caring person, she speaks her mind and yet she listens to others. Cull represents today's young and modern woman but she also appreciates the beauty of Indonesian's traditional values. She is both strong and soft, she has this unique blend of masculinity and feminity in her presence that makes her stand out from others.

Carrying all the styles so well and eloquently putting her emotions into words, Frederika then walked the stage in her National Costume titled ‘Sang Wanita’! A collective effort of Morphacio and Mayaratih Couture, the costume is not a story about the legend of Srikandi, but this is the legacy of Srikandi and inheritance of a woman's noble values, about struggle, love and hope.

As emotions are depicted through the dress, the women of Archipelago tells a tale, ‘I am said to be weak, my voice is not heard, my actions are not respected, Oppressed, I do not even know myself, and my identity is buried in loneliness. I want enlightenment, A freedom! My tears soaked the earth, my screams echoed into the sky. The sun is my father, and the moon is my mother, day and night they hear my lament. They comfort me, give me hope and strength. I heard a distant voice brought from the distance by the wind blowing until it approaches. A voice that called out to me, and made His Majesty's words, like arrows that pierced my back. Burning my body and soul so that it makes me realize, that's the voice of the Patriarchs, they are the true women of the archipelago, the warrior women of the past. They formed me, comforted me, and taught me to fight and burn myself with purification fire.  And my bow is the glory of this nation, the glory of the archipelago.”

With all my soul and body I will attract the Arrow of Hope, which is ‘The New Generation of the True Archipelago Women.’ Let the fire of glory burn the souls and bodies of all women who are called. Rise up the true women. Radiate your glory of glory. "There is hope, and a beautiful future for those who fight for it".
