Thuzar Wint Lwin of Hakha was crowned Miss Universe Myanmar 2020 on 30th December 2020 at Novotel Max Hotel, Yangon and will be representing Myanmar at Miss Universe 2020 scheduled to take place on 16th May 2021 in the United States. She succeeds Miss Universe Myanmar 2019 Swe Zin Htet for the title.

Thuzar Wint Lwin or popularly known as Candy Thuzar is considered as one of the front runners for the title as she has showcased immense dedication, and focus towards winning by being confident and assured with her actions towards making a difference in her country. A true quality of a leader or a representative of a country at Miss Universe stage is being showcased by Candy as she has taken it to the streets to use her voice and platform to help during the crises in Myanmar.

Recently, some fans were quick to jump and comment that she should focus on preparing herself for Miss Universe 2020 competition and stop protesting the dictatorship and concentrate on the trainings to which the beauty queen replied, “Miss Universe is very important for me because it’s my biggest dream but the most important thing for this time is our political system. We’ll lose everything like our hope, dreams, and so on in our entire lives if we lose in this fight.” She further added, “I must join and stand with my citizens for my country and for the truth.”

Thuzar who impressed everyone with her confidence and strong personality after she was crowned Miss Universe Myanmar 2020 stated, “If we win, I’ll reach the way of Muss Universe and make a history and will try to stand here as a powerful and an inspirational woman or Miss Universe Myanmar leading not only women but also all of my citizens. I’m also doing my trainings for Miss Universe and I promise that I’ll bring a greatest honour for my country and for you all.”

Candy has been an active voice and has expressed her opposition to the military coup and the violent suppression done to the democratic protesters. In the early February, the Myanmar military launched a coup d'état to seize power on the grounds of "ruling party election fraud." Many national political figures including Aung San Suu Kyi were imprisoned. The military's intention to re-elect the parliament caused many dissatisfactions among the Burmese people, who took to the streets to demonstrate, demanding that the military respect the results of the election and return to power peacefully.

Miss Universe Australia 2020 Maria Thattil has also spoken out in favour of her pageant sister and her country by supporting her. Thuzar has received appreciation for being so confident and strong even during such tough times. She is surely one of a leader and a strong contender for the title. Some pageant fanatics who applauded Thuzar also called her, ‘Queen of Democracy’.
