The news of Miss Universe Nepal’s franchise being separated from Miss Nepal came out a few months ago and on 11th June 2020, in a digital press conference, ‘Ma Nepali’; an organization founded by Miss Nepal Universe 2017 Nagma Shrestha in cooperation with CG Corp Global, was announced as the new franchisee of the Miss Universe Organization in Nepal.
The Miss Universe Nepal organization announced that the coronation of the next representative of Nepal at Miss Universe i.e., at Miss Universe 2020 stage will be held virtually keeping the social distancing and the proper safety of the people involved in mind. Shrestha announced that the Miss Universe Nepal 2020 pageant would be an all in-app beauty pageant. She explained that she is extremely proud and excited to be the national director of the country she is proud to be a part of.
As per her, the motivation for Ma Nepali holding the first-ever all in-app beauty pageant were the safety of participants and fans during the Covid-19 pandemic while also enabling the young women of Nepal to compete in Miss Universe Nepal irrespective of their location or economic circumstances. The digital press was joined by Rahul Chaudhary, Managing Director and CEO of CG Corp Global, where he stated, “This announcement could not have come at a better moment as we look up to the beautiful women of Nepal to guide the nation with compassion through these challenging times. As the Miss Universe Nepal title provides a voice to the talented women to bring a positive impact, we are also working towards bringing the global Miss Universe event to Nepal in the coming days.”
Nagma informed Ma Nepali that Miss Universe Nepal 2020 app is being developed and will be available in the app store and Google play store by mid-July. She also mentioned that the delegates will be selected via application itself and the divas will have to register themselves from the same app. After the registration and selection, the diva will go through online training and workshops for the pageant while the finale even will also be live-streamed.
The conference saw the participation of panelists from all over the world such as Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Nepal Universe 2018 Manita Devkota, singer Indira Joshi, Anusha Peterson, Creative Director at Ma Nepali and renowned pageant coach Jonas Gaffud who is also the Official Trainer at Miss Universe Nepal.
Last year, Pradeepta Adhikari represented Nepal at Miss Universe 2019 stage where she was appreciated for her strong performance on-stage but unfortunately wasn’t placed at top position. It will be interesting to see how the organization gets to choose the next representative of Nepal via an application.
