Netherlands’ Denise Speelman reveals her national costume for Miss Universe 2020

Miss Universe Netherlands 2020 Denise Speelman, in a recent social media post, revealed her national costume for Miss Universe 2020 where she mentioned, “Due to Covid-19 this year, we could not show the tourists our beautiful, colourful country that we are so proud of. So let us show you our treasures in a creation by Miss Pearl Couture.”

Denise revealed the costume on 27th April 2021, Kings Day, marking the birth of King Willem-Alexander on 27 April, where everyone in the Netherlands gets the day off work to celebrate. She also said, “Proud to be Orange! Happy Kingsday to all my Dutchies.” Desgined by Pearl Donker, the orange ensemble represents joy, sunshine, enthusiasm, creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, happiness, fun, enjoyment, balance, freedom, expression, and fascination.

 

 

The designer shared, “This year we gather all Dutch symbols such as windmills, tulips, delft blue, Amsterdam houses, Dutch foods and many more which are well known to the world.” Denise is also proud to present her roots as she brings her family business and Dutch heritage together with symbols of the fun fair and cotton candy. “This year the National Costume represents our colourful open minded country where the foundation is freedom, so we gathered all Dutch symbols and foods together and these were acrylic hand-painted on Dutch silk,” Pearl added.

The costume is also describes Denise's character, her personality; fresh, fun, colourful, lively, warm hearted and sincere. The dramatic tricolour flowing veil represents the Dutch Flag. The ‘Flowers crown’ represents gorgeous spring season of Holland at the moment. Denise is also bringing beautiful flowers from her country to share with everyone at the universe.

Miss Universe 2020 will host the National Costume competition on 13th May 2021 with a live broadcast. Miss Universe Netherlands Denise Speelman will represent Netherlands at the 69th edition of Miss Universe on 16th May 2021 in the United States. The winner will succeed Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi from South Africa for the title.
