Filipina beauty Michele Gumabao shares an empowering message for body criticism

13 Aug 2020 | Angelique Reyes

One of the most hurtful things that a beauty queen must face is the online hate from the fans and followers who are not aware of the fact of what goes behind in putting up something for them. The divas tend to deal with all of it with utmost grace and composed attitude but sometimes the online hate gets too much to ignore. Recently during a live session with Miss Universe 2019 Zozibini Tunzi, former Miss Universe Leila Lopes had also mentioned the same thing.

One such incident occurred when Miss Universe Philippines 2020 aspirant Michele Gumabao had to face online body shaming comments recently on her social media account where they commented that her that she's "too big or too muscular." But as hurtful as they were, Michele didn’t let the comments affect her and took to her social media account to shut them down by posting a picture of her and stating, “My legs are too big they say, honestly they really are. Instead of being insecure about it, which is a constant battle of choice, I just remind myself that these legs got me through years of intense volleyball, allowed me to jump, play and win. If you constantly find yourself comparing who you are and how you look with others, may this remind you that self-love and confidence won’t be handed to you, it is a choice! I say let them hate, they ‘ll never understand that these muscles are only made for champions.”

Michele became the official representative of the Quezon City for Miss Universe Philippines 2020 and is considered as one of the strongest contenders for the title. She works as a professional volleyball player and a TV presenter for ABS-CBN Sports and Action. She is the daughter of former PBA player and actor Dennis Roldan and sister of actor Marco Gumbao. She is an advocate of sports and she builds a volleyball camp in 2012 which seeks to give children the potentially life-altering option of choosing volleyball as passion.

The diva’s response to the people online has been applauded by everyone over the internet and this comes out as a one of the most eye-opening incidents as one of the aspirants of the title is being body shamed from something, she is very proud of. She is an advocate of sports and she build a volleyball camp in 2012 which seeks to give children the potentially life-altering option of choosing volleyball as passion. Her social media and visibility on small screen have kept everyone in loop with improvements on herself and the way she relates to the public in general.
