Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2021, the 65th edition of the national pageant, was held last night i.e. 30th September 2021 at the Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center, San Juan where twenty-six delegates competed for the national crown and Michelle Marie Colón representing Loiza was crowned the new queen. She succeeds and was crowned by Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2020 Estefania Soto.
Born and raised in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Michelle is of Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean descent. The 6 feet tall beauty has an extensive career in modelling as she has worked for various accomplished designers. She is the founder of the C.A.R.E. Empowering Program.
Not new to the pageantry, Colon was Miss Teen Americas Puerto Rico 2018. Representing Puerto Rico, she was crowned Miss Teen Americas 2018 in El Salvador in May 2018. In 2020, she and Miss Earth 2019 Nellys Pimentel of Puerto Rico walked the runway at the New York Fashion Week in New York, USA. She wore Giannina Azar designs. She is currently attending school as a biology and pre-medical student.
The newly crowned Miss Universe Puerto Rico 2021 Michelle Colon’s court included –
1st Runner-up – Jaylene Marie Álvarez (San Lorenzo)
2nd Runner-up – Oxana Isabel Rivera Álvarez (Dorado)
Apart from the winner and her court, Top 6 included Fabiola Marie Aquino Barreto (San Juan), Heilymar Rosario Velazquez (Toa Baja) and Sthephanie Marie Miranda Morales (Trujillo Alto). Before Top 6, the judges selected Top 10 which also included Liana Teresa Morales Sizemore (Aguadilla), Gabriela Sofía Muñoz Lugo (Isabela), Astrid Dianet Arroyo Díaz (Salinas) and Gabriela Guzmán (Villalba). Jaime Augusto Mayol, Estefania Soto were the hosts of the event.
A number of special awards were also presented at the finale which were as follows: Most Beautiful Hair went to Sthephanie Marie Miranda Morales (Trujillo Alto) while Most Beautiful Skin went to Gabriela Sofía Muñoz Lugo (Isabela). Also, Miss Friendship was awarded to Karina von Gundlach Pomales (Cayey) while Miss Photogenic went to Marangelí Meléndez (Cidra).
