The 70th edition of Miss Universe pageant, Miss Universe 2021, is all set to be held on 13th December 2021 in Eilat, Israel as Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

While the delegates are in the last leg of their preparations and have started to depart for the host country, Miss Universe Romania 2021 Carmina Olimpia Coftas has revealed her national costume for the preliminary competition at the 70th Miss Universe pageant.

The costume pays homage to Queen Marie of Romania, the granddaughter of British queen Victoria, who came to Romania at a very young age and fell in love with the culture there. Queen Marie was absolutely taken away with the country’s rich heritage and took keenly to every aspect of it. She frequently donned ‘Suman’, a traditional Romanian coat, hand woven with hidden meanings and patterns.

The costume is inspired by the same traditional folk fit and is designed by Aviad Arik Herman. It depicts the intricate Romanian embroidery and is embellished and adorned with exclusive rhinestones, in the colours of the Romanian flag. Completing the costume is a crown inspired by Queen Marie's treasury and very own original tiara.

20-year-old Carmina is a radio host by profession and a student of history at the faculty of history and philosophy of the Babes Bolyai University. Her ultimate career goal is to become a university professor. She used to play volleyball in a professional capacity before and has also been dabbling with modelling for the last six years. The sports enthusiast is also a health care advocate and is curious by nature.

The national costume round is where candidates get an opportunity to present their country’s culture and values by bringing their attires to life and meaning through showcasing artistic ensembles conceptualized and worked on for months by talented designers and art directors. Romania is ready with its national costume and will now get to flaunt it at the grand finale of the biggest title of all pageants, the Miss Universe title.
