Sarah Rose Summers issues apology over racist comments to Rern Nat and Hhen Nie

Miss Universe USA 2018 Sarah Rose Summers was recently caught in a controversy where she received strong backlash for allegedly passing racist remarks on Miss Universe Cambodia 2018 Rern Nat and Miss Universe Vietnam 2018 Hhen Nie’s English speaking ability. In what was supposed to be a moment of admiration for the two ladies for trying to go beyond their horizons, Sarah Rose was utterly misjudged and soon apologised for it.

Alongside a photo of her with her gorgeous sisters, Sarah Rose issued her apology through her Instagram post -

@MissUniverse is an opportunity for women from around the world to learn about each other’s cultures, life experiences, and views. We all come from different backgrounds and can grow alongside one another. In a moment where I intended to admire the courage of a few of my sisters, I said something that I now realize can be perceived as not respectful, and I apologize. My life, friendships, and career revolve around me being a compassionate and empathetic woman. I would never intend to hurt another. I am grateful for opportunities to speak with Nat, Miss Cambodia, and H’Hen, Miss Vietnam, directly about this experience. These are the moments that matter most to me.

There’s no doubt that with Miss Universe 2018 so close to its finale, the contestants are under heavy scrutiny and lot can be miscalculated because of just a few words. Even though the conversation on live video received a lot of backlash, Sarah Rose took it upon herself to clear the air and well, all we can say it all’s well that ends well!
