The 70th edition of Miss Universe pageant, Miss Universe 2021, is all set to be held on 13th December 2021 in Eilat, Israel as Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza of Mexico will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

While the delegates are in the last leg of their preparations and have started to depart for the host country, Miss Universe Vietnam 2021 Nguyen Huynh Kim Duyên has revealed her national costume for the preliminary competition at the 70th Miss Universe pageant.

The costume represents Bánh tét lá câm, the traditional food of Can Tho, Kim Duyên’s hometown. The cake is rich in taste and colour and is a speciality of the city, set on the southern bank of the Hau River, also known for its canal network and nearby floating markets. The dish is cooked on Tet holiday, the spring festival of the country. To give the cake its rich purple colour, rice is soaked in purple water extracted from the leaves of magenta plant.

The beautiful ensemble is conceptualised by the art director, Tun Nguyen in collaboration with the very talented Vietnamese designer Khoa Li. The queen had her styling done by Tran Ðit and makeup by Quan Nguyen.

The 26-year-old is a Business Administration graduate from Stamford Raffles University, Singapore. She is the co-founder of the Spreading the Love foundation which assists disadvantaged students to continue pursuing their dreams and aspirations. She competed in Miss Vietnam 2016 where she made it to the Top 30 and Miss Universe Vietnam 2019 where she became the first runner-up.

After her continuous efforts, she is now the beauty queen of Vietnam and holds the most coveted title. She has the responsibility to showcase her country’s culture and traditions at the event, part of which will be judged through her costume in the National Costume round at the competition.
