Joanna started working as a digital marketing specialist for Blue Corona in Washington, DC, the USA in 2017 and started volunteering at the Baltimore Youth Hockey Club as U12 girls ice hockey coach and U14 girls ice hockey coach in 2018. She believes that beauty pageants are a great way to introduce a new subset of people to the hockey world.

"My sister brought me this flyer for a pageant. She was like, ‘hey you should do this.’ I kind of looked at her was like, I’m a hockey player. She was like ‘I know, I want to see someone who is an athlete like me doing something like this on that scale, and that’s when I said OK, I’ll do it, " Joanna shared in one of her interviews. Joanna’s platform is to promote gender equality in coaching and explaining her cause, she mentioned, "Out of all those years that I played with a coach, only one of those years I had a female coach, although they were girls’ teams, and then coaching. One year, I was a head coach and I had a male assistant and it felt like every single time they’d shake the man’s hand coach and he’d have too re-direct them. "

Joanna is self-assured, strong, and determined to win, and as a former athlete, she understands leadership and the desire to win. She has started to prepare for the competition and strongly believes that with her dedication and focus, she will be able to perform her best at making the people of Vermont proud.

Miss Teen Vermont USA 2021 was also held on the same night where Jamisyn Baker has crowned the new queen. She will represent Vermont at Miss Teen USA 2021.
