Tia Carter becomes the first virtual finalist for Miss England 2020

20 Apr 2020 | Angelique Reyes

Miss England 2020 will be hosting its grand coronation ceremony later this year where gorgeous beauties from all over the country will compete for the national crown and the opportunity to represent England in Miss World 2020. Miss England 2019 Bhasha Mukherjee will crown her successor at the end of the event finale.

When the regional semis were axed recently due to coronavirus outbreak and with the July final now also in jeopardy – the Miss England Organization has refused to let that kill their beauty queen dreams by strutting their stuff on film instead of wowing the judges in person to make the final cut. It’s the first time in the competition’s 92-year history that these beauty pageants have had to go virtual. The glitzy final was meant to be held in Birmingham’s Hilton Hotel in July but this now looks in doubt too due to the lockdown.

Tia and Sapphire have previously competed directly against each other in pageants but the sisters insist a little bit of sibling rivalry is healthy.  Sapphire discovered the glitz and glamour of pageants aged nine which later inspired younger sister Tia to join the pageant community in 2018. Tia mentioned that she has learnt so much from all the women who were a part of Miss Leicestershire 2017. She is confident and determined that she has the skills to win the title and represent England at Miss World 2020.

She has started to prepare for the pageant where Sapphire is training and giving her the tips, she needs to finesse her performance on-stage. She said that their 54-year-old mother Thelma, a University library building assistant, has been their biggest inspiration. She wants to make her proud and travel the world with her family.

Miss England director Angie Beasley said: ‘The final of Miss England is currently on hold due to the coronavirus situation and has been postponed until further notice. ‘We didn’t want to let the girls or the charities they have already started fundraising for down. So, we decided to run the contest virtually contestants have submitted videos of themselves cat walking, introducing themselves and showing off their talent.” Angie further added that the organization is still not sure whether the finale event will take place as planned or not but the first virtual contest has been successful and it has given the girls the excuse to get dressed up while they stay at home.
