Miss World Guyana 2020 cancelled

27 May 2020 | Priya Bhardwaj

Majesty International, the official license holder of the Miss World Guyana franchise, has announced the cancellation of the 2020 Miss World Guyana national competition which was rescheduled from May 26th 2020 to a tentative kick-off in July 2020.

The decision was due to the prolonged uncertainty of what may happen in the upcoming months if the COVID-19 guidelines continue to disallow event gathering and the impact the prolonged quarantine is currently having on Guyana’s economy and the world at large along with concerns building over Guyana’s inconclusive electoral results. As such, the organisation felt it had no other alternative but to cancel the 2020 Miss World Guyana semifinals and finals competition altogether.

These unprecedented and unfortunate circumstances brought on by the COVID-19 virus and the effect it is having on all our lives is sad to say the least. However, our main priority for the organisation will always be to provide a safe environment for both our candidates and supporters. Moreover, as our national competition is not considered an essential business it would be inequitable to seek financial support or even approach our loyal partners/sponsors in this current climate”, National Director Martindale said.

Miss World Guyana also apologized to the 2020 Semifinalists, Sponsors and all the devoted supporters for the cancellation but saw this as the best outcome given the current challenges. “We thank you for your understanding and do look forward to your continued support”, the director concluded.
