Who can forget the very famous Miss Universe 2015 gaffe of Steve Harvey, when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia as the winner? The controversy went on for more than a month and it’s still a talked about issue in almost every field and every part of the world.
While the controversial crowning instigated hatred for Steve, it certainly also garnered him much popularity. The crowning blunder also popularised the Miss Universe pageant among the masses, and many also called it a publicity stynt. Probably, that’s why the Miss Universe 2015 moment was recreated at the Oscars 2017, when La La Land which dominated the 89th Academy Awards, was announced the winner of the Best Picture category, when in fact it was Moonlight.

It so happened that the presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway, who were called to announce the winner, ended up announcing the wrong name. It was ultimately producer Jordan Horowitz who confirmed that there had been a mix up. The shocking moment has received several reactions on Twitter, but the best was the one from the official Miss Universe Organisation that has won.

After the much controversial Oscar 2017 announcement, Academy Award host Jimmy Kimmel said, “Guys, this is very unfortunate what happened. Personally, I blame Steve Harvey for this. I would like to see you get an Oscar anyway, why can’t we just give out a whole bunch of them?”

Steve Harvey has surely set a benchmark in the world of controversy with his gaffe, and everybody else is catching up to it. Well, jokes apart, the Oscars 2017 definitely reminded us of the unpopular Miss Universe crowning blunder. Steve also hosted for the Miss Universe 2016 finals, which was won by Iris Mittenaere on 30th January 2017.
