Summer is here, and so is the season of beauty pageants. Amidst the various national pageants that are due this year, Señorita Panama 2017 is making its way to the finale. Señorita Panamá is the national beauty contest” to select the Panamanian representatives to Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss Earth, Miss United Continent and Reina Hispanoamericana led by César Anel Rodríguez and Justine Pasek..

The pageant is accepting applications and registration is open for interested candidates. The auditions will start in May, and during the auditions, the contestants will have to parade in swimsuits. Also, there will be a panel of judges who will interview the applicants for the finals. The Top 20 finalists, who will compete further to clinch the title, will be announced on 30th May 2017.

The finale will take place on 3rd August 2017, and the winner will go on to represent at Miss Universe 2017 pageants. The first national pageant of Panama was Miss Panamá, which was held from 1982 to 1987. In 1982, Señorita Panamá was created as an alternative to send its winners to the Miss World contest in London. These pageants, along with smaller pageants such as Miss International Panamá and Miss World Panamá used to select delegates for international representations.

Since Panama’s inception at Miss Universe, the country has placed eight times and has won the Best National Costume Award four times. However, the current National Director, Justine Pasek is the only woman from Panama to wear the Miss Universe crown.
