Switzerland has crowned its representative for Miss Earth 2017 already. 21 year old Sarah Laura Peyrel was crowned at the scintillating coronation ceremony of Miss Earth Schweiz 2017. Sarah was crowned by the outgoing Miss Earth Schweiz Manuela Oppikofer.

Sarah defeated right other contestants to clinch the coveted title, and earn the opportunity to represent Switzerland at the Miss Earth 2017. At the same pageant, Cléa Formaz was titled Miss Fire Schweiz 2017, Wiam Bentaja won Miss Air Schweiz 2017 and Ariana Birrer was crowned Miss Water Schweiz 2017.

Sarah won over the judges with her appearance and performance at the finals. Peyrel’s project involved collecting funds to organise small events and feed the downtrodden and the ones in need.  The newly crowned also aspires to campaign against child labour and for fair working conditions in the textile industry. According to the Miss Earth Schweiz Organizers, several hundred young women from all over Switzerland applied for the contest. Out of all the entries, only nine were shortlisted to compete.

Peyrel expressed her joy and excitement after winning the title and said (as translated), “We young people in particular are responsible for our future. With my application and now as Miss Earth Switzerland, I also want to motivate others to think more sustainably and to act more sustainably at the end of the day. Therefore, I take the choice of course and look forward to a turbulent as well as eventful year).”

The finale of Miss Earth Schweiz was graced by Miss Earth Schweiz 2015 Corinne Schädler. Corinne was present as one of the judges.
