Shruti Nagarajan was crowned as Miss Rhode Island 2016 at the culmination of the 2016 Miss Rhode Island Pageant held on May 22’ 2016 at the Casino Theater in Newport. Now, she will have the opportunity to represent her state at the Miss America 2017 Pageant.
Shruti Nagarajan succeeds Alexandra Curtis, Miss Rhode Island 2015. Alexandra competed for the Miss America 2016 title in September 2015 and placed within the Top 15 finalists. The scintillating show was televised finale on September 13, 2015.
Shruti Nagarajan is not new to the world of pageantry as she has already won the title of Miss Providence County in 2016. She is an alumni of Brown University, graduating with a bachelors degree in 2014. Nagarajan’s flair is in Bollywood fusion dance and her advocacy is to "Upward Mobility: College Access for Low Income and Minority Students."

The gala coronation saw a blazing hot performance by famous WPRO Radio host, John DePetro who performed the song "Popular" from the musical "Wicked" and her platform is "Make a Difference, Make it Positive, Make it Today!"
At the same event, Kristina H was adjudged as the first runner-up, Raquel P was announced as Second runner-up while Nicolette P was titled as third runner-up and Victoria C. finished as fourth runner-up.

After the announcements of the winners of the event, the organizers later announced the special award winners under the following categories:

Shruti Nagarajan is ready to conquer the Miss America 2017 pageant slated to be held at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on September 11’ 2016. The event will be televised by ABC in the United States.
