Beauty queen Trisha Bantigue awe-inspiring journey from being homeless to Queenly co-founder

14 May 2020 | Priya Bhardwaj

Beauty queen Trisha Bantigue has come a long way in her life professionally and personally being the co-founder of Queenly and Venmo along with Kathy Zhou. She grew up with her grandparents in a small province in the Philippines. Her life story is so inspiring that it makes everyone work hard towards building a future as accomplished as hers.

Trisha never saw her parents until age 10 as her parents petitioned her to move to the United States. She lived in Las Vegas with her mom who eventually developed a gambling addiction. This led to her moving around all the time as a kid due to them being evicted. At one point, Bantigue was homeless.

At just 16 years of age, Trisha started working to help pay bills and emancipated at the age of 17 breaking all the ties to her mother. With her hard work and sincerity, Trisha worked her way into UC Berkeley, having to take two years off of school in the middle of her university career in order to work and be able to afford to finish off her degree.

My whole life has been unstable. I am used to things being chaotic, so I am comfortable with the idea of risking everything to start my own thing, and not having stability and not having a stable career path whatsoever”, she explains.

Her life story has been similar to that of her partner in crime (and in business as well) Zhou, growing up in unstable conditions. Since they are used to chaos and instability, when it came to making the decisions to throwing away all the stability they had in their lives with their 9-5 jobs, put everything on the line to found Queenly, they both gratefully took the leap. Trisha is definitely a role model for countless people around the world and has shown that ‘where there is a will, there is a way’.
