Miss Universe 2016 Preparations going in full swing

30 Dec 2016 | Angelopedia

Exactly one month from now, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach will pass on her reign to her successor. On the eve of 30th January 2017, Pinoy beauty Pia Wurtzbach will crown one of the 2017 beauties as the next Miss Universe. With just a month left, the preparations are going really strong, and not just for the contestants, but also for the host country.

On 27th December 2016, the policemen and social workers gathered a hundred street dwellers in Manila. The homeless were from the areas of Manila City Hall and Baywalk along Roxas Boulevard which is less than half an hour drive from the SM Mall of Asia where the pageant will be held on Jan. 30, 2017. But the idea is not to take the homeless off the street for the event. In fact, President Duterte administration is inviting the beauty queens to visit the local disadvantaged communities.

According to sources, Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo will urge pageant organizers to allow the contestants to interact with the Filipino youths in government shelters. During an interview with ABS-CBN (official media partner of Miss Universe 2016), Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said, "We know that many of the Miss Universe contestants come from poor countries. So, poverty and sufferings are not new to them and the Philippine government agreed not to hide the poor communities."

Talking about the Miss Universe pageant, this will be the first time that the pageant will be held in the Philippines. As per reports, the contestants will start arriving from Jan. 12, 2017, and the pre-pageant activities will start on Jan. 15, 2017. Eleven candidates have already toured some places of the country this month, during the Kick Off Party of Miss Universe 2016 held in Philippines.

The 2016 contestants will tour around the country and will visit different places including Albay, Bicol, Batangas, Iloilo and Baguio among others. The girls will have a photoshoot in Vigan, Ilocos Sur on Jan. 15, 2016 and a swimwear competition at Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark, Cebu on Jan. 17, 2016. The beauties will have a courtesy call on President Duterte at the Malacañang Palace on Jan. 23, 2017.
