Best Top 2 Placements in Miss World through the decade (2011 – till now)

15 Feb 2024 | Priya Bhardwaj

Miss World, one of the oldest and most prominent pageants in the world, has seen multiple historic wins in its 73-year-old history. With the beauty queens becoming prominent figures in the society after their wins, Miss World proves them a platform to voice their opinions for change.

It is to be noted that covid-19 happened around the world in 2020 which led to no competition being held that year. 2022 also saw a miss because of the postponement of the 2021 edition.  Let’s take a look at the best Top 2 placements, in our opinion, through the decade of 2011 until now –

Miss World 2013

The 63rd edition of Miss World was held on 28th September 2013 in Indonesia where Megan Young, from Philippines, created history by becoming the first ever delegate from her country to become Miss World. Megan’s win also made the Philippines the third country to win all of the Big4 International Beauty Pageants.

That year, Marine Lorphelin from France was adjudged as the first runner-up and was also the highest scoring European contestant that year, winning the Miss World Europe 2013 title. Marine and Megan made the Top 2 and it was one of the strongest ones of the decade with both the beauty queens performing outstandingly well.

Miss World 2016

The 66th edition of Miss World was held on 18th December 2016 in USA where Stephanie Del Valle of Puerto Rico was crowned Miss World 2016. Puerto Rico won its second crown that year after Wilnelia Merced won in 1975. Giving her strong competition in the Top 2 was Yaritza Reyes of Dominican Republic who came with experience at Miss World 2016 (Yaritza competed at Miss Universe 2013 and placed Top 10 and won Virreina at Reina Hispanoamericana 2013).

Miss World 2017

The 67th edition of Miss World was held on 18th November 2017 in Sanya, China where Manushi Chhillar of India was crowned Miss World 2017, breaking a pageant-drought for India of 17 years. Manushi’s win made India tie with Venezuela for most wins in the pageant’s history.

Giving her strong and close competition was Andrea Meza of Mexico, who was a crowd’s favourite as well that year. Andrea didn’t know it in 2017 but she would go on to be crowned Miss Universe in 2020. Both the beauty queens brought their A Game to the competition fueled with compassion and sincerity.

Miss World 2018

The 68th edition of Miss World was an iconic year as well with Vanessa Ponce of Mexico being crowned Miss World 2018 in China. She made history by becoming the first Mexican woman to be crowned Miss World. Standing second was Nicolene Limsnukan from Thailand who was another favourite for the crown and gave a strong competition to Vanessa.
