Adé van Herdeen, the first runner-up of Miss South Africa 2017 was appointed by Miss South Africa organisation as a replacement to Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters, due to conflicting schedules of Miss World and Miss Universe pageants. The crowing of Demi ignited a lot of hope in South African fans, as she had all the potential to be Miss World 2017. In 2014, Rolene Strauss from South Africa won the Miss World 2015 title.
