Afua was chosen to represent Ghana at Miss World 2017 by executives of Exclusive Events Ghana, the organisers of Miss Ghana pageant after the organization decided to send Margaret Derry Mwintuur, Miss Ghana 2017 to Miss World 2018 pageant as the 2017 edition of the national pageant was held very late (on 7th October 2017), and the new winner will not be adequately able to prepare for Miss World pageant.

This year, Miss World competition has a new format, giving greater emphasis to social media and interactivity. This new format is called the ‘Head-to-Head Challenge’, which will select 20 out of the Top 40 contestants. Out of the remaining 20 contestants to make it to Top 40, 5 will be the winners of fast track events and 15 will be jury selection.
