Miss World Australia finalist dies in a car accident

17-year-old Miss World Australia finalist Elyse Miller-Kennedy died on 12th August after a car accident that took place on 7th August. Police have charged a French woman over a crash that caused the death of Elyse. 
 
 
Miller was travelling on the Mareeba Dimbulah Road at about 7pm on 7th August when her car collided with another vehicle carrying a 24-year-old French tourist and her 20-year-old companion. The police allege that the tourist was driving on the wrong side of the road. Miller suffered critical head and facial injuries and injuries on her arms and legs. She was airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital before being taken to Townsville for further treatment.

As per the reports Miller was trapped in her Toyota Camry for two hours after the incident. 
 
Miller-Kennedy's family released an official statement following her death, which read: "Remember Elyse’s inner beauty, the warmth she showed to all, her humbleness during her journey throughout her larger than life experiences and of course the generous sweet soul and friend she was to so many."
 
 
Reigning Miss World Australia Madeline Cowe also released a statement...
 
"I'm in complete shock and lost for words. Elyse you were such an amazing person and I am so happy to have met you and spent the time we did together. You were such a mature, intelligent, kind, caring, fun and beautiful girl and at only 17 your life was taken far to early. I will always remember you, I miss you so much already. All my love, thoughts and prayers go out to Elyse's family and friends. Rest in peace beautiful girl,” said Madeline Cowe.
 
The Cairns Forensic Crash Unit investigated the incident and has charged the 24-year-old with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death. She will now face Cairns Magistrates Court on August 20.
