Problems seem to be only increasing for the Miss Universe pageant. Ever since the upcoming pageant has been scheduled to be held in the Philippines, something or the other issues have been creeping in. According to the recent reports by Fox News, ‘Islamic State jihadis in the Philippines are plotting to attack the Miss Universe contest that will be held in their country in 2017, according to a secret jihadi social media channel accessed by The Foreign Desk.’

The update came from a thread posted to a Telegram Messenger group called “IS Philippines supporters,” encouraging “everyone who can” to launch attacks at the event. The sender inspired followers to target the blood of foreigners whose nations have participated in the war against ISIS.

The Miss Universe 2016 pageant is scheduled for January 2017 in the Philippines. The pageant has been facing controversies ever since the update on the venue was announced. According to the former Ilocos governor Chavit Singson, although the budget to host the pageant is being shouldered by private sectors, the country might operate on a financial loss and do not expect a return on investment.
An article on ManilaTimes.net by journalist Katrina Stuart Santiago also pointed out the reasons why hosting the pageant in Philippines is not really a great idea.
The Miss Universe pageant was founded in the year 1952; it started as a local "bathing beauty" competition organized by Catalina Swimwear in Long Beach, California. Donald Trump acquired the pageant in the year 1996 after the pageant had gained popularity among various pageant lovers.
