At the finale of the state pageant held on 10th December 2017 in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Idaly Ayala Anaya was crowned Mexicana Universal Durango 2017 and she will now represent Durango in the national contest Mexicana Universal 2018 in May 2018. Idaly, originally from the municipality of Guanaceví, is just 18 years of age and stands tall at 175 cm. She defeated 13 other candidates competing to clinch the title.
Her court included Viridiana Guijarro (first runner-up), Stphania Montenegro (second runner-up), Mayra Velázquez (third runner-up) and Yaneth Valverde (fourth runner-up). Other candidates competing were Angelica Delgado, Estefania Porras, Eva Quiñonez, Karen Hernandez, Steisy Villaseñor, Janeth Rojas, Marisol Barraza, and Kathia Torres.

Mexicana Universal contest (formerly known as Nuestra Belleza Mexico) is the national beauty pageant of Mexico responsible for selecting Mexico's representatives for Miss Universe and Miss International besides other minor international pageants like Reina Hispanoamericana and Reina Internacional del Café. Lupita Jones, Señorita México 1990 and Miss Universe 2010, is the President of Mexicana Universal.
