Luisa Baptista crowned Miss Universe Angola 2016

Miss Cuando Cubango, Luisa Baptista was crowned as Miss Universe Angola 2016 after defeating 16 other crown contenders on 13’ December 2015. She will now represent her country in Miss Universe 2016. She was crowned by Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes, who is the only Miss Universe from Angola till date. She succeeds Whitney Shoikongo as the new Miss Universe Angola. Miss Huambo, Victoria Mande was adjudged as the first runner-up and Miss Angola UK, Raquel Gomes was titled as the second runner-up. Miss Angola Portugal, Claudia Leonardo and Miss Benguela, Bruna Cardosa, completed the top five finalists spot.

20 years old beauty queen, Luisa Baptista was awarded a Fiat 500 car as one of the prizes. Luisa Baptista entered the history of 20 years of existence of Miss Angola Committee, as she is the first woman to take the crown to Cuando Cubango.

Miss Photogenic subtitle went to Miss Benguela, Bruna Cardoso and Miss Friendly award was given to Valentina Silva. Best Traditional Attire award was given to Carolina Caluvi, Miss Huíla.

The finale was fun-filled and witnessed the musical extravaganza of renowned Angolan musicians Kyako Kyadaff, Sarissari and Tchoboli, As Africanas, Big Nelo and the US singer Billy Paul.

While Angola does not hold a grand placement record at Miss Universe, Luisa Baptista has got a spark and magnetism which with proper grooming might instigate a placement for her nation in the coming edition of Miss Universe. Angola has competed at Miss Universe since 1998 and has had 2 Top 15 placements (2003 and 2004), 1 Top 10 placement (2007) and one Miss Universe in 2011, with Leila Lopes.
